Gambling Regulation in Cyprus
Since the birth of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960, the gambling legislation has had 6 amendments, the last taking place in 2006. Despite the provisions of the well publicised Betting Act 2012, much of the old legislation remains unaffected, if not reinforced.
LLPO team's understanding of the law on lotteries, gambling and gaming and the commercial dynamics of the sector, enables us to advise companies across the industry and in multiple jurisdictions.
With a wide range of legal services, we are well placed to support clients in the betting and gaming sector across a range of business and legal challenges.
On the corporate front we advise clients on the key licensing and regulatory issues arising in a due diligence process and on appropriate warranties to ensure the law compliance and other necessary regulatory requirements within a corporate transaction.
Our clients included some of the leading local online sports betting companies, together with operators, software providers, and service providers specialising in this market in Cyprus.
LLPO Law Firm and Vlaemminck & Partners BV BVBA - PharumLegal (in consortium with KPMG Cyprus Ltd, QLot Consulting AB and J&E Davy Holdings Limited) has been selected by the Ministry of Finance of Cyprus and its Privatization Unit thereof as the retained consultant of the Cyprus Government for the Licensing, Management and Operation of the Cyprus Government Lottery.
