At the heart of Green Agenda 2025 lies the European Green Deal—a blueprint for transformational change that goes beyond climate neutrality. All 27 EU Member States have pledged to reduce emissions by at least 55% by 2030, with the ultimate goal of reaching full climate neutrality by 2050.

In Cyprus, the 2022 Environmental Implementation Review by the European Commission has highlighted key challenges, particularly in waste management and nature protection. While there has been progress in the closure and rehabilitation of illegal landfills, waste generation remains high and recycling rates stagnant. It is evident that a collective effort is required to build a resilient, future-ready environmental framework in line with EU directives.
