APOEL is much more than a football club: it is one of Cyprus’ most respected multi-sport institutions, known for its commitment to a wide range of athletic disciplines including swimming and water polo.

The club’s swimming department was officially formed in 2013 and since its first official competitions in 2014, has quickly established itself as one of the most dynamic and rapidly growing swim clubs in Cyprus. Meanwhile, the water polo department, created in 2014, was built on a foundation of long-term planning, strong youth development and strategic vision to build a competitive senior team from the ground up.

Recent Success and Achievements

In a remarkably short time, APOEL’s aquatic departments have delivered notable successes in Cyprus’ competitive swimming and water polo scene:

• The swimming team has grown rapidly, engaging hundreds of swimmers and swimmers-in-training, participating in multiple national-level competitions and producing strong results.
• The water polo department has become a dominant force in Cyprus. In the 2024-2025 season, APOEL’s men’s water polo team won the national championship, their third consecutive title, demonstrating consistency, depth and competitive spirit.
• The club has not limited itself to domestic competitions: APOEL water polo was the first Cypriot club to represent the island in a continental competition, participating in the 2019-2020 LEN Euro Cup, marking a milestone for Cypriot water polo.

These achievements underscore the club’s commitment to excellence, long-term development and raising the bar for aquatic sports in Cyprus.
